My first backpacking international trip started with wandering in New Zealand. It was my first year in my grad school, heavily tired of work and exams so I was looking for an escape. The place I was living Irvine is not lush green or have uncrowded nice beaches. I was craving for green, ocean blue and nature. The fact that my aunt living in Auckland and after watching the following video, it was an easy decision to pick NZ.
This is my report on NZ south island. Most beautiful place I have ever been to. As my tradition, this was my song for the trip
1.Planning
Since Sri Lankan passport is among worst passports, I had to apply for tourist visa. You can read later about the process in a different article which I’m gonna publish very soon(within this decade :D). After mailing my passport and getting it back, a friend of mine introduced me to a grad student(Chanjeef) who lives in NZ. So I planned my south island trip and then asked Chan and his friend(Suvi) to join me. This was mostly a road trip. It spanned for 4 days and no serious hikes. Ultimate goal was to see Milford sound in a cruise.
2. Trip Before Climax
It was simple. rented a car, drive to places starting from Dunedin tunnel beach to Fiordland National Park.
